Anyone can save a life

PERSONAL TESTIMONY FROM FORMER STUDENT KATE BOCK GURKA (ALVIN ISD TRANSPORTATION MECHANIC)

I took CPR and first aid for my job, as a requirement. We went into class carelessly thinking we would never use this, what are the odds that this could happen to someone with us around? I tucked what I learned into the back of my mind and the card in the back of my wallet. That was in August.

January 26th my coworker had a heart attack at work, as I rushed into the room he was face down. I turned him over and he was very rigid and turning purple. Another coworker and I started CPR.  It took my friend 3 days to wake up in the hospital. He remembered everything and thankfully had minimal rehab because we were able to act so quickly. I thought I checked that off the bucket list.

Until December 11th, that same year. Another coworker fell and suffered a heart attack. Who would believe that you would be blessed enough to revive two people and that they would both survive, with minimal rehab and full memory?!

Today I am not afraid of what I could do if someone needed help and I was near. What scares me is if I were to need help…who could help me? If it had not been for Marilyn Rodriguez these two people would be dead. I gained two brothers for life.

I would not only encourage you; I would beg you to take this class. I am nothing special, a regular person with no specialized training other then what I had received in this class, and because of its people think I am an everyday angel, a hero.

Do not hesitate to sign up, involve your company, your family, and friends. It could save a life, maybe yours!
